Hong Kong International School

At ME, we pride ourselves on the impressive school network that we have built and maintained over the years. Having relationships with prestigious schools around the country, and indeed around the world, offers our students a great advantage when it comes to the application process.

Because we liaise regularly with the schools in our network, we know exactly what they are looking for in their exams and admissions interviews and what common mistakes make the difference between a successful application and a non-successful application. Our tutors are also extremely familiar with the coursework and admission prep material so they can guide students through the process of studying and preparing.

In this article, we will look at the Hong Kong International School (HKIS), since this well-respected institution is one of our most popular admission requests.

Why Is HKIS So Popular?

Hong Kong International School is a very popular choice for students. The school caters to students from Reception One (pre-kindergarten) through to Grade 12. HKIS has made a name for themselves by providing educational excellence with a difference. According to Interim Head of School Dr. Ron Roukema, the school places a large emphasis on ‘compassion and service across all grades.’

The courses available at HKIS not only inspire and challenge students, but they teach them to pursue curiosity and embrace knowledge throughout their journey of life. Being a ‘global citizen’ is infused into every course and HKIS graduates are eligible to attend top universities around the world.

To nurture ‘global citizens,’ students are encouraged to remain up to date with current events, be aware of the impact of major global, social and environmental events, confront discrimination stereotypes and appreciate global diversity. Students are taught how to develop a multicultural perspective and learn to empathise with those representing a minority position.

Admission Criteria

Lower Primary: HKIS Lower Primary School serves students for Reception 1 (Pre-K), Reception 2 (K), Grade 1 and Grade 2. There are 4 main steps in the admission process.

  • Step 4: Admissions Decisions

Student assessments include evaluations on the following criteria: English Language Proficiency, Demonstrated Academic Achievement, and Personal Characteristics.

Middle School and High School: HKIS Middle School serves students from Grades 6 – 8, while HKIS High School serves students from Grades 9 – 12. The application process for these groups requires an ISEE assessment.

  • Step 1: Fill in the online application

  • Step 2: Required supporting documents

  • Step 3: Assessment information (ISEE)

  • Step 4: Admissions decisions

Student assessment evaluations are based on the same criteria as Upper Primary students.

How ME Can Help

In addition to guiding students and their families through all the necessary documentation, ME tutors have made a name for themselves by successfully preparing students for the MAP and ISEE evaluations.

The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test is an exam that is designed to track students' individual academic progress. It is a computer-adaptive assessment test designed to assess reading, language usage, math, and, for some grades, general sciences.

Because of its dynamic nature, it is important to be familiar with the test’s format and changing difficulty level before test day. ME tutors will work with students to ensure they are familiar with the types of questions and well prepared to answer any evaluation they are faced with.

For the ISEE exam preparation, our expert tutors will prepare students for their entrance exam & Interview. We are currently offering winter courses which include a 20-hour intensive test prep package available in group or one on one format.

After Graduation From HKIS

Once HKIS students have successfully graduated, they have a big decision ahead of them. What should they study and which top universities are they eligible to apply to?

An education from HKIS opens up some of the finest educational institutions in the world. Obtaining an education on this level and then going on to further one’s education, should set students up for a promising and successful career ahead.

HKIS’s Dr. Ron Roukema states that up to 85% of the graduating students go on to attend American institutions which make up a large number of the world’s best universities.

ME admissions consultants ensure that when it comes to university applications, students are confident with their chances of success because we guide them through the entire university admissions process. As part of our university admissions package, we help students take advantage of all the amazing benefits that attending a top university can offer. We even help prepare students as much as possible for the cultural transition, should they choose to study abroad.

Although HKIS opens the doors to some of the world’s finest universities, the application process can be tricky. Students will need experienced guidance. We help them navigate the process and even arrange campus visits where appropriate. Our admission consultants also handle letters of recommendation and any supplemental materials that are required.
