Bridging the Gap: Learning Through a Pandemic

"Change is the only constant in life. One’s ability to adapt to those changes will determine your success in life." – Benjamin Franklin

If the past few months have taught us anything, it’s that the ability to adapt to new circumstances is a vital component for success.

Adapting to Online Learning

Online learning has been on the radar for many schools, but it wasn’t until COVID-19 reared its head that students, parents and schools were forced to change everything they knew about 'learning' and turn it on its head.

Months later, students are pro’s at logging in for Zoom classes and teachers, have mastered the art of keeping students engaged online. It didn’t happen overnight, but now - with the benefit of hindsight - we can all appreciate how far we have come in the online learning space, and how well it has, and will continue to serve us.

Technological Advantages

In some ways, online learning offers benefits that traditional classroom settings do not, including flexibility of time and environment, developing skills for self-motivation and technological resources like polls, breakout rooms and content sharing.

Considering the high value we place on technology, (think STEM), and the importance it holds for our students educational progression, it has been wonderful to show them just how crucial and helpful it has and continues to be, in our everyday lives.

In a difficult time, we all rallied together and now we can proudly say that the global pandemic has not hampered our students’ educational progress at all. We managed to upgrade our online lesson capabilities so we could keep our students on track with their coursework. We are confident that our online offering is of the highest standard and we continue to make daily tweaks to improve it. The online lesson classes on offer include IB, GCE AL, I/GCSE, SAT, ACT, AP, Junior Academy and more.

Free Trials

We understand that this method of learning is unfamiliar to some, and that each student is unique and learns optimally in different ways. It is for this reason that we set up free trial lessons for each course. We have allowed for various setups including private one-on-ones, or small group lessons. This way, new students and parents can experience the way the classrooms operate before deciding which style will suit them best.

All-Year Review Courses

While we have managed to keep classes running and curricula on course, it is understandable that some students may still feel anxious as exams approach. We are doing our best to minimize any concerns they may have, and help them to ‘bridge any gaps’ they might feel have arisen due to the disruptive school year or their own personal circumstances. To support our students, we have launched all-year review courses that cover the topics in the same order that they were covered in school.

These revision courses help students manage their stress around exams and eliminates the bad habit of trying to cram everything they’ve learned in months, into a few days. Our Spring term cumulative exam revision courses offer various intensive programs that are tailored for students across IGCSE/IB curricula. We designed these programs to help students establish a solid foundation throughout the year, build confidence in each topic, drill the most common test questions and to give students the opportunity to ask questions that weren’t covered in school.

These review courses are available in person or online and students are encouraged to bring a classmate along if they wish to form their own study groups.
